The Reluctant Divorcee

Brought to you by SA Law

I’ve never considered writing a blog before; it’s the kind of thing other people do. I’m more of a fact-based person but things are so all over the place at the moment that writing down my thoughts and feelings suddenly feels like the right thing to do. It helps me to organise my thoughts a bit, and who knows, someone else might read this who’s going through the same thing. So here it is: My blog, by Rebecca Green.

First money, now the children. What a month!

Well, James has backed off on his plan to go to Singapore and says that he’s off to Greece instead. That feels fair as he needs a break but it made me realise that we need a holiday too. I’ve suggested to Mum and Dad that the 5 of us go away somewhere warm with a pool for a fortnight over the school holidays. It’s a little last minute but I’m sure that we’ll find somewhere.

James has also expressed his frustration about not seeing the children more regularly. It’s been a day here and there so far and I knew he’d eventually ask for more time with them. What surprised me, however, is that he got his solicitor to write to Marilyn stating that he wants them at his place every other weekend and to take them on holiday to Menorca!

They’ve not stayed at his place yet, not even for 1 night, how will they feel about being away from me for a whole week? And how will James cope?

After much deliberation and after talking it over with Mum and Dad, we’ve come to the conclusion that they should stay over with him next Saturday night and see how that goes. Whilst I’m sure it will feel like a big adventure, Dylan is only 2 and can be a handful and it’s not as if James is used to caring for them 24 hours a day. Marilyn will respond via his solicitor as all this needs to be in writing, and state that if it goes well, we will consider a more regular weekend visit

Marilyn also explained to me that I need James consent to take the children abroad myself and I have to give him the details of our dates, flights and where we’ll be staying.
